SPEAKERS:
Ade spent 25 years in the British Army as an officer, with roles covering a range of disciplines. He has military operational experience from deployments in Iraq (Baghdad 2004) and Kosovo (2008), along with defence diplomacy expertise in East Africa. After leaving the military in 2012 he delivered strategic communications in Somalia and defence reform in the Middle East, before moving into cyber security 7 years ago.
In his role as Senior Advisor, he is focused on growing NCC Group’s presence in the UK public sector, where he is focused on helping clients maximise their investment in cyber. He also delivers crisis management exercises for senior leadership teams in FTSE listed companies and works alongside other internal teams to improve brand recognition. NCC Group were recently presented with the ‘New To Market’ Award from the Department for Business and Trade at the UK-Portugal Business Awards.
Outside work, Ade published his first book in 2020, entitled ‘Under A Feathered Sky: the untold story of NATO’s role in newly independent Kosovo’, describing his experiences during a 6 month operational tour in 2008/09. During the pandemic, he qualified as a Mental Health First Aider and recently completed a distance learning course to gain a deeper understanding of autism.
Arlindo Oliveira was born in Angola and lived in Mozambique, Portugal, Switzerland, California, Massachusetts, and Japan. He obtained his BSc and MSc degrees from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and his PhD degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a distinguished professor of IST, president of the INESC group, member of the board of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, researcher at INESC-ID, and member of the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation and of the Advisory Board of the Science and Technology Options Assessment (STOA) Panel of the European Parliament. He authored three books, translated into different languages, and hundreds of scientific and newspaper articles. He has been on the boards of several companies and institutions and is a past president of IST, of the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence, and of INESC-ID. He was the head of the Portuguese Node of the European Network for Biological Data (ELIXIR), visiting professor at MIT and at the University of Tokyo, and a researcher at CERN, INESC, Cadence Research Laboratories and Electronics Research Labs of UC Berkeley. He is a member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering and a senior member of IEEE. He received several prizes and distinctions, including the Technical University of Lisbon / Santander prize for excellence in research, in 2009.
Bruno Borges is 43 years old, married and has two children.
He graduated in 2003, in Hotel Management at the Estoril Hotel and Tourism School (Portugal).
With an entrepreneurial attitude, in 2004 he founded PeopleLikeUs, a consultancy company in the banking sector. In 2010, due to a personal need, he realized that there was a gap for a new service in the Portuguese Market, and thus iServices was born.
The first store of the brand opened in Parque das Nações, Lisbon then currently there are more than 40 stores spread throughout Continental Portugal, Azores, Madeira, and Canarias Islands. iServices has currently an ambitious expansion plan in place to open stores in different countries: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, and many others.
Carlos Eduardo Martins is a Senior Portfolio Manager of the Investment & Treasury division at the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) where he manages a €20bn sub-portfolio. He joined the ESM/EFSF in 2012 and is responsible for investing part of the €80.5bn Paid-in Capital, in line with the ESM Investment Guideline. He has been working in fixed income markets for over 16 years, helping develop the ESM’s asset allocation, the ESG strategy and the investment framework since its inception in 2012. He also participated on an IMF technical assistance mission, as a Reserve Management Expert. Carlos is also focused on the EU Taxonomy development, being an appointed observer to the European Commission Platform on Sustainable Finance, as ESM’s representative.
Prior to join the ESM/EFSF, Carlos spent over 6 years as a proprietary trader for a Portuguese investment bank, covering a vast array of fixed income instruments, and focusing on global macro trades.
Carlos graduated in Economics at University of Aveiro (Portugal), obtained a MSc in Finance from Lancaster University Management School (UK), is currently a PhD student in Economic and Social History at ISEG (Lisbon) and a visiting lecturer at Universidade Catolica Portuguesa (Porto).
Cristina Casalinho holds a BSc in Economics from Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics and a MSc in Finances from Nova School of Business & Economics.
Since November 2022, she is managing director at Banco BPI responsible for Sustainability. Between 2014 and June 2022, she was Chief Executive Officer of the Public Debt and Treasury Management Agency (IGCP, E.P.E), after having served as executive director between June 2012 and August 2014. From 2001 to 2012, she was chief economist at Banco BPI. Currently and since July 2022, she is non-executive trustee at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
She is also a lecturer on Credit Risk Management in Porto Business School and has a regular column on Economics in a local financial newspaper.
Daniel Alves de Oliveira, 40 years old, born in Sta. Maria da Feira, married and father of two children is currently Head of Innovation & Research at E-goi (Portuguese Platform for Multi & Omnichannel Marketing Automation), and also manager of the Artificial Intelligence R&D team. He has been a teacher, trainer and international lecturer in Management, Marketing and Communication for over 15 years. He start his academic career as lecturer at University of Maia. In parallel, he began his professional career as Marketing Director of a professional soccer club. During his professional career he has managed projects and businesses (nationally and internationally) worth more than 100M€.
Luis Bravo Martins is Chief Marketing Officer at KIT-AR, an industrial augmented reality (AR) startup . Luis started working with AR in 2014 and since then he´s been passionate about its impact on business and society. He is currently an advisor to several immersive tech organizations, including the VR/AR Association and XR Safety Initiative. He is also a speaker and author on the Metaverse and his most recent book "Metaversed - See Beyond the Hype", was published by Wiley & Sons in February 2023.
